It’s that time of year again - summer reading time!
As upcoming seniors, you will be reading a book from the following list to complete for summer reading. Each English teacher in the department has chosen a book that they recommend reading for those students signed up for particular course electives for senior year. These novels will come into play in the class throughout the year, so reading your class novel will be beneficial! You must finish reading the novel and prepare for a test on that novel to be given in your English class on Friday, September 22, 2023. You are not required to keep a reading journal, but you may find it to be a useful reference tool when completing your Summer Reading Test. A recommended journal format can be found under the additional resources tab at the top of this page.

PLEASE NOTE: Many of the Summer Reading books assigned to the rising Senior class contain mature subject matter. Several books include realistic fiction that explores topics such as racism, mental illness, and violence, to name a few. Additionally, the non-fiction choices explore war, PTSD, and random acts of senseless violence.
Copies of these books are available at your local library, at all local book retailers, and at online book retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. The UCT library will have several ebook copies available to sophomore students via OverDrive. Additionally, the UCT English department will have a limited number of copies available for loan, along with the audiobook version of the novel. If you need assistance accessing the novel, please get in touch with Ms. DeChristopher as outlined below.
PLEASE NOTE: AP Literature students have a separate summer reading assignment that will be distributed directly to students enrolled in those classes. If you are going into AP and did not receive this assignment, please get in touch with Ms. DeChristopher at mdechristopher@uppercapetech.org. A copy of the AP assignment can also be found under the honors assignments tab at the top of this page.
